Logistics specialists direct, develop, or perform logistics management operations that involve planning, coordinating or evaluating the logistical actions required to support a specified mission, weapons system, or other designated program.

Logistics refers to the process of coordinating and relocating resources such as people, materials, inventory, and equipment from one point to storage at desired destinations.

Specialists are responsibility for planning, managing, and executing a comprehensive acquisition program to meet the needs of the organization. They exercise management control and provide technical and administrative supervision over procurement and contracting for recurring, special and emergency requirements.

They are administratively and technically responsible for all purchases within an organization; make decisions in matters pertaining to procurement regulatory guidance, methods of acquisition, and deviations from recognized procedures when required to meet peculiar circumstances or unprecedented transactions. Concurrently, they interpret and implement requirements imposed by higher authority involving regulations, laws, and good business practices.

Some logistics work also involves activities such as housing management, food services, and management of test equipment. The degree of involvement in any one or a combination of these functional specializations is dependent upon the purpose for which the logistics work is accomplished and the specific requirements of a particular position.

Characteristic of all logistics management work, however, is the overriding requirement to coordinate the activities of the individual functional areas into a unified program which will meet total support requirements.

Medical Records Technician Jobs

Medical records technicians assemble, analyze, code, abstract, report, maintain, and extract medical records information. They organize and check medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements. In most Federal medical centers today, the medical staffs, including medical records technicians, use automated records systems.

Specific duties of medical records technicians vary with the complexity and characteristics of the facility. Use of the latest treatment methods by health care professionals requires comprehensive medical records, in some cases with many diagnoses and treatments. The time and knowledge needed to analyze and code a record, increases in proportion to the patient’s length of stay and the complexity of the patient’s diagnosis and treatment.

Transportation Security Officer – Positions Now Available

The Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Agency employs more than 50,000 transportation security officers (TSOs) at 440 airports nationwide. TSOs provide security and protect travelers across all transportation sectors. Their duties extend to securing high-profile events, important figures and/or anything that includes or impacts this nation’s transportation systems.

Currently, over 442 job vacancy announcements are posted online, many for multiple positions at airports across the county. The starting salary is $35,152 ($16.90 / hour). Salary is adjusted per locality pay area. Many locations are offering sign on bonuses of $1,000 or more and starting salary can be negotiated under certain conditions.  

Applicants must have a high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), or Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) credential OR at least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.  English language proficiency is also required.

TSO Duties

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and perform the following duties:

  • Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
  • Performing searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property, etc.), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
  • Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
  • Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers, in order to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life threatening or mass destruction devices, and to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
  • Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills, necessary to mitigate actual and potential security threats, by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches.  This may include application of risk-based security screening protocols that vary based on program requirements.
  • Retaining and implementing knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrating responsible and dependable behavior, and is open to change and adapts to new information or unexpected obstacles. write necessary correspondence and narrative reports of contacts.

A 2.7% GS Pay Raise Approved For 2022

Federal Employees will receive an across-the-board pay raise of 2.2% in 2022, plus an additional 0.5% locality pay adjustment, for a 2.7% average increase.

The 2.7% pay raise 2022 charts are now available along with all special rates. Review the locality pay area definitions outlining the pay rates for all regions nationwide. If you are employed in the federal sector, use the 2022 Federal Employee’s Excel Leave Chart to track your weekly schedule and record your annual and sick leave, comp, and credit hours used.

The General Schedule (GS) Pay System

The General Schedule (GS) classification and pay system covers the majority of civilian white-collar Federal employees (about 1.5 million worldwide) in professional, technical, administrative, and clerical positions. This pay system is administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Agencies classify their GS positions and appoints and pays GS employees filling those positions following OPM guidelines.

The General Schedule has 15 grades, GS-1 (lowest) to GS-15 (highest). Agencies establish the grade of each job based on the level of difficulty, responsibility, and qualifications required. Individuals with a high school diploma and no additional experience typically qualify for GS-2 positions; those with a Bachelor’s degree for GS-5 positions; and those with a Master’s degree for GS-9 positions.

Each grade has 10 step rates (steps 1-10) that are each worth approximately 3 percent of the employee’s salary. Within-grade step increases are based on an acceptable level of performance and longevity (waiting periods of 1 year at steps 1-3, 2 years at steps 4-6, and 3 years at steps 7-9). It normally takes 18 years to advance from step 1 to step 10 within a single GS grade if an employee remains in that single grade. However, employees with outstanding (or equivalent) performance ratings may be considered for additional, quality step increases (maximum of one per year).

A new GS employee is usually hired at step one of the applicable GS grade. However, in special circumstances, agencies may authorize a higher step rate for a newly-appointed Federal employee based on a special need of the agency or superior qualifications of the prospective employee.

If you are being considered for an appointment to a federal job, you are able to negotiate starting salaries under certain conditions. You can’t request a higher starting salary after you official accept an offer. Social Worker – Caregiver Careers (GS-0185)

The Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest employer with 16,772 followed by the Department of the Army with 1,185. HHS employs 125.

The Caregiver Support Program (CSP) is one of the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) most rapidly growing service areas, as a result of infrastructure modernization, programming innovation, and expansion of population-served by the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) under the MISSION Act. The Social Worker will provide consultation on the administrative and clinical considerations of the program.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

English Language Proficiency: Social Workers must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).

Education: Have a master’s degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master’s degree in social work.

Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level.

(1) Exception. VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. This exception only applies at the GS-9 grade level. For the GS-11 grade level and above, the candidate must be licensed or certified. At the time of appointment, the supervisor, chief social work or social work executive will provide the unlicensed/uncertified social worker with the written requirements for licensure or certification, including the time by which the license or certification must be obtained and the consequences for not becoming licensed or certified by the deadline.

For appointments at the GS-9 grade level, VHA social workers who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must become licensed or certified at the independent, master’s level within three years of their appointment as a social worker. Most states require two years of post-MSW experience as a prerequisite to taking the licensure/certification exam, and VHA gives social workers one additional year to pass the licensure/certification exam. In states such as California, Washington, and others where the prerequisites for licensure exceed two years, social workers must become licensed at the independent, master’s level within one year of meeting the full state prerequisites for licensure.

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program 2022

The PMF Class of 2022 Application will open at Noon (Eastern Time), Tuesday, September 28, 2021, and close at Noon (Eastern Time), Tuesday, October 12, 2021. The announcement will be posted on October 28th.

The PMF Program is a leadership development program at the entry level for advanced degree candidates. It was created more than three decades ago by Executive Order and has gone through many changes over the years. The Program attracts and selects the best candidates possible and was designed to develop a cadre of potential government leaders. It provides some sustenance during the first years of employment and encourages development of leadership capabilities.

Eligible individuals apply to be selected as Finalists. Finalists then have 12 months to secure a PMF appointment, which is a two-year, full-time, paid fellowship at a federal agency. The PMF Program creates a lasting bond among Fellows and Alumni, and instills a spirit of public service, which, for Fellows who complete the program successfully, can ultimately encourage and lead to a career in government. The PMF Program is one of three Pathways Programs

For the 2022 PMF application cycle, OPM updated their assessment to improve the process in a variety of areas including addressing concerns around equity in all stages of the process. They also enhancing their recruiting efforts with greater outreach to diverse communities, expansion of their engagement with Minority Serving Institutions, enhanced recruitment through the alumni network, and use of strategic recruitment platforms.
